Caught between the president and congressional Republicans who want him to resign over the Russia probe, the NFL’s owners are asking him to step aside.

But with Republicans in control of both chambers of Congress, Trump can’t simply fire the president in the middle of the investigation.
If Trump were to step down and the investigation were to continue, that would be his final act as president.
The NFL is asking Trump to leave office at the end of the week, which is on Tuesday.
The owners want the president to leave the office by Friday, but Trump has said he’d like to remain in office.
Rooney has said the league will have to hold a vote before the end, and that could happen before or during the congressional recess.
Trump has been in office since Jan. 20, but it hasn’t been the smoothest ride.
Trump was impeached on Friday on charges that he obstructed justice and lying under oath about his interactions with former national security adviser Michael Flynn, the first to be charged in the probe.
Trump’s firing of Flynn and subsequent firing of FBI Director James Comey have raised questions about his credibility as president and his relationship with the FBI.
